How to display 2-letter country name abbreviation under "map area label" instead of 3-letter abbreviation

Under "map area label", either when I select "abbreviation" or "ISO code", country names on the map are shown with 3 letter. (Currently, "VIEW1" option under settings:"show 3-letter abbreviation of name for map areas & graph" is FALSE)
How can I show the 2-letter country abbreviations? What do I need to do under settings?

Thank you!

Hi,
If you are using the World Map version, the only way to display your own code (e.g. 2 letter abbreviation) is to modify the names in the sheet Import (StatPlanet Data Editor). That means it replaces the full names, so it will be shown by default (so within StatPlanet, you can no longer change it back to full names). You can automatically create two letter abbreviations from full names using the following Excel formula:

=LEFT(L2, 2)

Just put this in a cell below the first name in the sheet 'Import', copy and paste this formula across row 3 up to the last country name. Then copy and paste these abbreviations to row 2, to overwrite the original full names (Making sure to use Paste -> Values, not regular Paste).

I hope that works for you.

Frank

Hi Frank,

Thank you for your reply. But it seems a bit complicated. Actually, when I first started out, the map did show 2 letter country codes without me changing anything. Afterwards, I think I selected the "VIEW1" option "show 3-letter abbreviation of name for map areas & graph" to be TRUE. But once I unselected this, making it to be FAULT, the 3 letter coutry codes stayed and would not go back to 2 letter codes.

Is there any simplier way to make the 2-letter codes happen? :)

Hi,
I'm not sure how the map could be showing 2 letter codes - are you using the World Map version of StatPlanet Plus, or the shapefile map edition? (if it's the shapefile map edition, that is possible). If you want to share your StatPlanet Data Editor to have it looked at, please feel free to send a contact request via
