Adding Multiple Layers

Hello Everybody,
I am trying to add several shapefile layers. But it only worked for one layer. in the tutoral file, it is said that a new borders layer  should be added to new region. I added as the instruction. I added the letter 'b' for border.
But, I did not know how to make the several shapefiles together (map regions) put together.
Where should I add the new map region shape file? Should I add it from Statplane_Data_Editor, or make seperate flash file?
if there are more than 3 layers, how can I add?
Thanks
Tilkan

Hi Tilkan,
The multiple map layer instructions (http://www.statsilk.com/maps/create-flash-maps#multiple-map-layers) are for the Flash map version, and have not been tested with the shapefile map version. However, there is no reason why it shouldn't work for the shapefile version. All the map layers would need to be in the same shapefile. Also the instructions in the link would be the same, but it should not be necessary to create border layers. This is only for the Flash map version which works differently (and requires borders to be defined seperately). But if you follow the steps for adding all the map regions for each map in the StatPlanet Data Editor it should work. In the instructions above there is only the map area 'WESBIG' as an example, but you can add multiple areas for each map, with a column for each.
I hope that helps.
Best,
Frank

Hi Frank,
Sorry, there is another problem,I added a new map region to the StatPlanet Data editor ( in the sheets of Import and Data). The new map region became visible but colourless, nameless. But there is also a new small circle on the left side of statplanet.html indicating the name of the new map region.I could not find the reason.

Hi Tikan,
This sounds like an issue with the shapefile. If StatPlanet cannot find the map region in the shapefile (which may be there but the name could be missing or the spelling different). If it cannot be found, it will instead appear as a circle or 'map point', which is used for e.g. adding cities etc. which are not in the shapefile map.
I hope that helps.

Hi Frank,
Thank you very much for your reply.
Yes, it works only I merge all shape files to one shapefile.  Because the color of last shapefile hide the former ones and all the background. So is there any solution for make the background visible? Can I change the transparency of colors to make the background colors visible?

Hi Tilkan,
Did you follow the following step from http://www.statsilk.com/maps/create-flash-maps#multiple-map-layers?

"The first step is to change a setting in the StatPlanet Data Editor, sheet 'settings'. Under ‘Map options’, set the value of ‘MAP-ND-TR’ to ‘TRUE’ to make map areas with no data transparent. "
This should make any map layers with no data invisible, thus resolve your problem. If you have a link to your map that would also help so I could check what the problem might be.
Best,
Frank
