Statistics: Weighted vs Arithmetic mean

Hi everybody,
I would like to show some statistics for each indicator. StatPlanet has the option to show the mean, st. dev. and range. Because of the structure of my data, the average for each indicator needs to be weighted. How can I modify the formula of the mean?
I also have another question. I was looking at the settings to find out how to open the country panel (in my case, province panel) by default when StatPlanet starts. The version of the StatPlanet_data_editor is 1.2.

Thanks,
 Susana

Hi Susana,
The country panel is variable 'VIEW15' in the sheet 'settings' in the StatPlanet Data Editor. Regarding the weighted mean - the formula used cannot be modified so this would require a customized version of StatPlanet. Feel free to use the contact form http://www.statsilk.com/contact if you would like to get a cost proposal based on your requirements.
Best,
Frank

Hi Frank,
Thank you for your quick response. In my version of StatPlanet Data Editor (1.2), the variable VIEW15 is located in the sheet 'Data' and is related to the option "Show table Window" in the sheet 'settings'. These are the options I have:

Show country info

- Use country abbreviation

- Use country code

- Use country name

- Show statistic(s)

Show popup

- Include popup bar chart

- Include popup indicator

- Inlude popup statistic

Show symbol map

Show windows

Show graph window

Show indicators window

Show map legend

Show options window

Show table window

Could you verify the specific variable that I have to change in order to show the country panel (or province panel) when StatPlanet starts?
Thanks,
Susana

Hi Susana,

It looks like you are using quite an old version of StatPlanet, so for this you will need to upgrade to the new version (http://www.statsilk.com/downloads). The new version has a new sheet in the StatPlanet Data Editor, called 'Tools'. If you go to the sheet 'Tools', run 'Copy data and settings into this file' and select the old StatPlanet Data Editor you were using from the previous version, it should set up everything automatically (you would just need to rename the file as Excel cannot open two files with the same name). This should facilitate upgrading to the new version.

Hi Frank,
Thanks for your response. It worked, I tansfered my data to the upgraded version of StatPlanet. However, I couldn't figure out how to import the map of Afghanistan, which I have in shapefile format. Is there a way to import this map without using StatPlanet Plus or Adobe Flash CS4?
Thanks,
Susana

Hi Susana,
You can import shapefile maps using StatPlanet Lite, but it has a one indicator limit:
