I've used StatPlanet for a couple of maps and found the Excel data editor remarkably easy to use...until today. Everything I try, including the 'data example for import worldmap' sample spreadsheet included with the zipped download gives me a "The following headers or variables could not be identified" message and then the FULL list of countries (in reverse order). The time and indicator headings display properly on the import worksheet. I've disabled Skype and Google drive because I saw something in the forum related to conflicts with them, but to no avail. Any ideas what might be causing the problem?

Data Import Not Recognizing Countries
Hi,
That's odd if it worked before and stopped working. With this error message it means that the names in the sheet 'Import names' in the StatPlanet Data Editor do not match the names in the spreadsheet you are importing. Perhaps you could verify this. The sample spreadsheet is for the World Map version of StatPlanet, is this the one you are using?
Best,
Frank
Frank,
Thanks for the quick reply and guidance. I am using the World Map version and your comment helped identify the problem, because the new copy I downloaded (and I just did again to confirm) has only a few values on the 'import names' sheet...only columns L through S, not the full list of all countries as previous versions. (The names in those columns seem to be from some other project, and include: Central, Coast, Nairobi, North Eas, Nyanza, Riftvalley, Western). I found and ran an older version of the data editor that does have the full list of country names and it's working great. Thanks again.
Kurt
Hi Kurt,
That would explain it, this is the StatPlanet Data Editor from the 'Custom Flash Map' version (not the 'World Map" version). I have just verified the StatPlanet downloads, and the World Map versions look right.
Best,
Frank
